Location

The largest island of the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia lies between Lefkada and Zakynthos, covering an area of 781 sq km and witha population of about 35,000 inhabitants. The capital of Kefalonia is Argostoli. Other large towns include Lixouri, Poros, Sami and Skala. Its beaches are legendary for their clear waters, the most famous among them being Myrtos, which has been named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Of special interest are the island’s caves, such as the Melissani grotto  and the cave of Drogaratis, both of which are definitely worth a visit.
